Hotel review: Novotel Citygate Hong Kong

Novotel Citigate Hong Kong

I stayed here with my partner for 2 nights on a stopover, and we chose this hotel because we wanted a) a decent hotel where we could sleep well and have space, and b) because we had a 5.30 AM flight out of Hong Kong and wanted to be close to the airport.

Location:
Even if you don’t have an early flight, you should still consider this hotel. It only takes 20-25 minutes by MTR (the wonderfully clean, modern and efficient HKG underground) to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island, so it’s a really good option if you don’t necessarily need to sleep in downtown.

Plus, if you intend to visit the Giant Buddha and Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island, all it takes is a 10 minute walk through the big fancy outlet shopping mall to the new cable car terminal.

Room:
If you decide to stay here, you will be rewarded with very spacious rooms that are kept in modern design. I loved the interior decoration and how much space we had, considering other hotels we had been to in Hong Kong before. As to be expected of a hotel of that category, there are enough TV channels to choose from and wireless internet is available (the latter at an additional cost, however).

The restaurant downstairs seemed nice enough, we only had breakfast there once, and there was a lot of variety, from Asian cuisine to the typical continental breakfast.

All in all, I found this a great place to relax after two days of sightseeing and shopping in the bustling downtown areas, and very convenient for a very early checkout. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Couldn’t have asked for anything more. Apart from free wi-fi internet, of course.
