Quick tip: Alesund, Norway

Alesund, Norway

Alesund, Norway

Alesund on Norway’s west coast is not just a cruise ship pit stop. Well, they stop there for a good reason. Seafood enthusiasts love it, and so do fans of art nouveau architecture. You’ll also find the occasional skier and boarder there – it’s close to some fine ski fields a bit further inland.

Alesund makes for a great weekend getaway. The town of now about 40,000 inhabitants burned down completely in the early 20th century and was then rebuilt in art nouveau architecture. It’s a beauty!

Soooo pretty! I would love to visit Norway, but from everything I’ve heard, it’s way out of my budget!

It can be pricey, that’s true. Maybe time for an article on budget travel in Norway? 🙂

We have been thinking about a Norwegian fjord cruise for awhile and Alesund is always one of the ports of call but I knew very little about it. It looks lovely – I could probably just park myself and eat seafood for the day!

Yes, there are always cruise ships stopping in Alesund. What you’re describing is exactly what I did – had a walk around town, sat down in a cafe, sat down in a restaurant and ate seafood!
