So remember why I went on a crazy two-week road trip around New Zealand with my friend Meagaan back in October/November?
Well, as you recall, it was all for a good cause: to raise funds for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal, a charity supporting the rebuilding efforts in the form of much needed community projects.
Meagaan and I drove thousands of kilometres through the North and South Islands to raise funds for the charity. We braved grade 5 rapids in Rotorua, jet boated to the Huka Falls outside of Taupo, swam with the sharks in Auckland, bungy jumped 400 metres above Queenstown, and even jumped off a plane in Wanaka, amongst a lot of other things!
The results are in!
I can now announce that the funds we raised together have been matched by my employer, Microsoft. I am proud to say that:
Together, we have raised 2,333 NZD!!
WOOHOO!! That is an AMAZING result!!
I would like to thank all of you for your support in the form of donations, guest posts, spreading the word, and media attention! Special thanks to:
- the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal UK for enabling online donations
- all sponsors for participating in the Blog4NZ campaign,
- Tourism New Zealand for additional support,
- the Taupo Times and Canterbury Television for media coverage,
- the organisers at Travel Generation, Dan and Nicole, and
- Microsoft for matching the funds!
I’m looking forward to seeing more fantastic community projects in Christchurch and Canterbury and how the funds raised will translate into helping Christchurch recover; with the help of all of you, we are making a contribution to bettering the lives of Cantabrians after the earthquake.
In the meantime, let’s get those visitor numbers climbing to new heights – there’s plenty to explore in Christchurch!
