Hostel review: Stonehurst, Christchurch

One of the good value for money hostels in Christchurch. With 19 NZD per bed per night it is one of the cheapest in town.

I stayed in an 8-bed dorm and a 6-bed dorm, and I slept well. My partner is quite tall so he had problems fitting in, but beds are good otherwise.

The hostel part of this bigger motel complex is clean, has a nice-size kitchen with dining area, which was never packed, and a really nice homey TV lounge with leather sofas and Sky TV. It looked more like the lounge in someone’s home rather than a makeshift hostel lounge. Showers were clean and the bathrooms looked well maintained.

There are parking spaces on the lot.

Staff were ok but not very motivated or friendly, but still professional.

Stonehurst is a 5 minute walk from the center, so ideally located for those wishing to be central but not in a party hostel. I can recommend this hostel to anyone seeking value beds in Christchurch. Stonehurst provides decent accommodation at low rates.
