My name is Christina Hegele, and together with my partner Bodo I started Sandal Road to share my travel experiences with a wider audience. When travelling I often found myself thinking that other travellers could benefit from my experience and all the information one collects about places, so I decided to put a few articles together, and voila, Sandal Road was born! Contact me.
My name is Christina Muschol, and I joined Sandal Road in August 2014 as I was about to embark onto a long journey through the Caribbean. Starting off on Martinique, I happen to be a type traveller: under-30, western (German), female, backpacker, travelling alone and requiring the odd job to finance the journey. I intend to write about my experience, and maybe throw in my 2 cents worth of advice! Contact me.
Sandal Road is based on WordPress, and its design is based on the awesome work of oh-so-many contributors to the WordPress-o-sphere. But the real work of designing, developing and maintaining the blog, as well as optimizing it for search results, harnessing social media, and number-crunching the analytics is done by my partner Bodo.

Sandal Road aims to share information on what to see and do, stories and adventures, places to stay, from camping to hostels to hotels, short-term, long-term or budget travel, backpacking, working holidays, travel advice and practical tips and tricks. Sandal Road explores great destinations. I hope you’ll find my posts useful when looking for inspiration or researching your next trip.
Since its inception in January 2011, Sandal Road has celebrated a few milestones already:
Winner: in May 2012, Christina was awarded best blogger in a worldwide competition run by Virgin Atlantic to celebrate the inaugural flight on their new route London-Vancouver. Entries were made by posts on Vancouver as a travel destination.
Winner: in March / April 2011, Sandal Road participated in the Blog4NZ campaign, promoting tourism to New Zealand after the Christchurch earthquakes. The Blog4NZ campaign proved a social media success and quickly gained exposure through other media outlets. As a way to say thank you and to support these efforts, Tourism New Zealand, Air New Zealand and many tourism operators throughout the country got involved and offered prize packages for the winners, judging by quantity and quality of content produced and the international reach of the entries through social media. I am proud to say that Sandal Road was one of the three winners, winning the North Island prize.
