Switzerland is a place of wonder. The scenery has everything from stunning lakes to tall snow-capped mountains. Many of these places are well known and filled with tourists both with and without RVs. Yet, there are a few places that aren’t as popular, places that even the Swiss themselves don’t even know about. These are four, less known places that should go to the top of your RV road trip list.
Hidden Place One: The Bisse des Ravines in Valais
Just above the small town of Bruson, you will find the hidden wonder called Bisse des Ravines. Located in an enchanting setting, this lovely spot is not well-known and visited even less. At this wonderful location, you will find a hike that is about three kilometers long. On this hike, you will cross varied landscape including forests and streams. There are even picnic places to sit and eat before heading back and going into town or onto the next spot on our list.
Hidden Place Two: Saint-Ursanne in Jura
This next spot is a town that is nestled in a valley called the Doubs River. Saint-Ursanne is an old town with a charming atmosphere that just invites you to go in and explore. Though this spot is not often visited due to its distance from the normal tourist spots, the local flair and colorful sights should be more than enough to get you to make the drive out. For the top spots in town, check out the Cloister Cathedral as well as a path that leads to an old refuge for hermits.
Hidden Place Three: Nessleren to Saxeten
If you plan on going during the winter, sledding in this next spot must be on your list. If you want to blend in with the locals, grab a Davoser sled and make your way to the top of the hill before sledding back down. Once you finish sledding to your heart’s content, climb back up to the top of the hill where you can warm up with some warm drinks.
Hidden Place Four: Jungfraujoch
This is one of the more well-known spots on the list, yet not often visited. Nicknamed “The Top of Europe” due to its 11,371-foot height, this place is a great spot to literally see the world. Jungfraujoch might just be the most beautiful place in Switzerland, though you need to be careful at the top as the ride up has been known to cause altitude sickness. If you feel bad, try walking slowly and breathing calmly. Others have suggested going back down to the halfway point. Whatever you choose, it’s a must to your visit list.
Switzerland overall is a great country with many things to see and do. Everywhere you go, you will be met with beautiful countryside as well as great lakes and mountains. RV parks are plentiful, and from hiking in the mountains to touring in the cities, you will have the time of your life. If you want to make sure that you see not only to tourist hot spots, but the hidden gyms then keep this list on hand while your there.
